The newest launch from Tata Motors has been the Harrier.EV, which created a lot of buzz in the industry. Its primary rival in India is the Mahindra XEV 9e. Many wonder how these two compare in terms of performance, as the XEV had previously set the bars high with the capable powertrain. The Harrier.EV, however, took the crown away from it with the twin-motor setup and All Wheel Drive (AWD). This further pumped up curiosity about how the two compare. A video shared online shows a drag race between the XEV and the Harrier.EV.

It looks like this drag happened in a large parking space, on the premises of what looks like a stadium or a race track. The two electric SUVs are lined up. As soon as the race starts, the Harrier.EV is seen sprinting ahead of the XEV 9e. Electric vehicles are known for their instant torque deliveries. Here the battle is between two such EVs. Thus, the victory depends solely on the powertrain capabilities.

The Harrier.EV gets a two-motor setup- mounted one on each axle. The combined output of this powertrain is 316hp and 504 Nm. The 0-100 kph time for the AWD Harrier.EV is 6.3 seconds. The XEV on the other hand, gets a single-motor setup even on the range-topping variant. It sits on the rear axle and powers the same. The XEV has a powertrain output of 305 hp and 380 Nm. It can sprint to 100 kph from a standstill in just 6.7 seconds.

Thanks to its AWD setup, the Harrier. EV is faster than the XEV. This is what gave it the title in this drag race as well. The faster acceleration can also be attributed to the massive torque upper hand. The Harrier.EV's powertrain boasts an extra 200Nm of torque over the XEV. This translates to a faster acceleration as well, despite the added weight.

Tata also has a Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) version of the Harrier.EV on sale in which the rear axle-mounted electric motor generates 238 hp and 315 Nm. This variant could potentially give you different results if put to the drag test.

The size of the battery pack is another major difference between the two. The XEV offers two batteries- 59 kWh and 79 kWh, both sourced from BYD. The Harrier.EV, on the other hand, is available with 65 kWh and 75 kWh batteries.

This could be the first real-life performance comparison between the two electric SUVs. Tata Motors hasn't started deliveries of the Harrier.EV yet. A recent press release from the manufacturer said that the booking window is now live and confirmed that the deliveries will start 'soon'. It doesn't specify a date for the same.

As the SUV starts reaching owners, we could come across more performance and comparison tests between these models. It is in fact, one of the most sought-after EV segments in the country.

Talking prices, the Harrier.EV takes the lead. Tata Motors has managed to price the SUV aggressively. The XEV 9e has its price in the 21.90-30.5 lakh price range. Harrier.EV undercuts this! The RWD variant starts at Rs 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom). There are five broad trims- Adventure, Adventure S, Fearless Plus, Empowered, and Empowered AWD. Existing Tata EV owners will further stand eligible for a special loyalty bonus worth Rs 1 lakh. These make it a sweet deal indeed. The range-topping AWD variant (Stealth) has a sticker price of 30.23 lakh rupees.
